Best answer about What is the best way to remove ceramic tile from concrete floors?

Answer by seriousddneeded
Best way is a pneumatic scrapper.
Next best is a electric medium demolition hammer available at the Depot with a broad chisel on it.
Then there is the old fashioned way.

Put goggles on, long sleeve shirt, dust mask and rent a demolition hammer with a wide floor chisel bit. Once you get a spot started just keep chisel at a angle under the tile edge and go to town.
When all tile is up, rent a concrete grinder to grind off the remaining thinset mortar. Shop vac up loose fine dust, mop and rinse.

The best suggestion is to remove the tiles AND an amount of the
concrete below them, then remove the concrete backing with careful use of a wet saw. The concrete floor will be easy to repair. This assumes that you can get access to the tiles you wish to remove. If they are at the center of a group of tiles that can not be sacrificed, this
technique will be of no use to you.

you can find some good wet saws on my source site

Are you removing some of the tiles and leaving others intact or are you doing a complete removal? The process will vary slightly depending on this.

If you are removing only some of the tiles, you should first use an electric grout remover such as a Fein tool to chisel out the grout carefully. Be sure not to damage surrounding tiles and then use an electric chisel to break up and remove the tiles themselves.

If you are doing a complete removal, skip removing the grout separately and go right to chiseling out the entire floor with an electric chisel.

Be careful not to damage your subfloor. Rather than chiseling vertically, slant the machine so that it comes at the tiles at an angle which will minimize the possibility of damage to the subfloor.
