Best answer about How do you remove Ceramic tile glue from a concrete floor?

Answer by don_vvvvito
That’s a million dollar question. If I have to take some thinset up,which is pretty rare,I just take a crowbar and hammer and start knocking.I have tried a floor sander before but that wasn’t a good idea. There is not an easy way as far as I know.Kinda like having to take down wallpaper.

You could try acetone or you could rent a floor grinder and grind it off.

I’m not sure about what type of glue it is, but I know that Goof Off is really strong stuff and removes glue, paint, ink, etc… Then scrape with a putty knife. Goo Gone is about the same stuff. Buy whichever one the hardware store is selling.

Is it thinset? Grey in color ?
If it is the best way that I know is to go to your tool rental store
and rent a small electric jack hammer with a ceramic tile blade
to attatch to the jackhammer. This method works well for
me, and I hope it works for you.

Rent a floor grinder. Don’t use acetone inside the house.

I m going on the assumption that it is a thin set.. This is white or grey in color. You have a couple choices..Hammer and chisel and a hand scraper and go at it.. You can rent either a electric hammer w/ scraper blade. Or a big huge heavy floor scraper. Powered by electricity and vibrates ,using a 10/12 inch blade. This is heavy , noisy and a bit of a dust creator, but will work.. if you have a huge area to do..No cleaners or over the counter “chemicals” will work on thin set, its a labor intense must do job..DO NOT use a grinder unless you want to clean dust from the house for the next 6 months..Now if this is a small area and you need it done fast I have other ideas ,and suggestions.. E mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there GL
