I need to damp proof my floor and corrugated metal sheet roof (10′x20′). The floor is concrete, and the walls are made from blocks. Could anyone tell me in lamest terms what the best solution would be? My aim is to make an office in there – so just painted plaster board walls would do.
Thanks.
The damp is rising from the floor through the walls; would a plastic sheet stop this? If not, wouldn’t my insulation become damp?

Answer by Toadsputum
I lived in a cement basement for a while when I was taking care of an elderly family member. We purchased a paint that was used to seal the walls and floor. My husband thinks it was just called “water-proofing sealer.” That helped a bunch on cutting down the moisture. We also purchased a super-duper dehumidifier for the summer.

Insulation should be fine for the roof if it was installed properly. The floor would require a sheet of plastic laid down under whatever flooring you plan on using. Might consider an epoxy coating on the floor instead of laying another product on top of the concrete. Should also insulate the walls if they are not before you throw up the sheet rock. Maybe add a drop ceiling, then you’ll have to think about how to install HVAC in the garage.
